Event Details
This is the very popular "Explore your business with digital" course that is accredited by the University of Hull as a Foundation Award Module.
This course is for those new starts/businesses who need to get a web presence or would like to make more of their website - that is - make the website work more effectively for them.
Who is the course aimed at?
Sole traders, small businesses, start-ups, entrepreneurs
Prior Knowledge/Experience:
No previous experience required. Knowledge of the internet and email would be useful.
ESSENTIAL : A curiousity about the internet.
Learning Outcomes:
All assesment is based on showing that you have achieved the learning outcomes for the course. These are simple statements of what you should be able to do once you have completed the course. The learning outcomes for this module are as follows:
- Knowledge and understanding: Identify new and emerging digital technologies and trends and the impact these may have on business and society.
- Intellectual/Thinking Skills: Analyse and draw conclusions about the use of digital media communication techniques in business and society.
- Practical/Professional Skills: Edit, enhance and optimise digital video, images and audio for the web.
- Transferable Skills (eg communications, team working, learning, ICT, etc) :
- Communication: Select appropriate methods of communication for audience and purpose
- Information Technology: Make effective use of digital media and communication technologies
What topics will the course cover?
- Digital photography
- Digital audio (podcasting)
- Digital video (vodcasting)
- Creating a website
- Digital future: what it means for you and how you can profit from it
The course start on 4th May 2010 and is delivered over 3 consecutive Tuesdays from 9.30am - 4.30pm
PRICE : If you pay directly to the Center for LifeLong Learning - the booking fee is deducted and the following prices apply.
What will the courses cost?
In most cases the fees for each UFA course are at the end of the publicity paragraph. The fees for UFA modules are:
- 10 credits - Full - £77, Reduced £55, Concessionary £0
- One year study route - Full £320 Reduced £225 Concessionary £0 (Fees may be paid in instalments)
Concessionary (Nil) Fee
You will be eligible for a concessionary (nil) fee if you fall into any of these categories
- you receive Housing Benefit
- you receive Income Support
- you receive Council Tax Benefit (not the single person’s reduction)
- you receive Income-related Job Seekers’ Allowance (JSA)
- you receive Working Tax Credit/Disabled Person’s Tax Credit
- you are a student on the ‘New Deal’ Allowance
- you are a Tax Credit recipient with a low family income (the income threshold is the same as that for free prescriptions, ie gross household/family income of less than £15,703).
- you have a gross household/family income of £15,703 and are not in receipt of tax credit or any qualifying benefits
- you are in receipt of Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disablement Allowance or
Disability Living Allowance, and your sole income is from welfare benefits.
All course fees in this prospectus are for UK students. Details of fees for other students are available from the Centre.
Reduced Fees
You will qualify for a reduced fee if your gross household family income falls between £16,510 and £19,510.
This should mean that most of our students who previously paid a reduced fee on the basis of being retired and over 60 or, full-time students aged 18 and over, will still qualify for the reduced rate. Please contact the Centre for further advice.
If you are not covered by any of these reductions or concessions, but experience real difficulty in paying, then please either contact Nicky Robinson-Jordan, the CLL Senior Finance Assistant, on 01482 465974 or write to her at the Centre. All requests will be handled in the strictest confidence.
If you lose your job during the course and become entitled to an income-related benefit please contact the Centre on 01482 465974.
The University Foundation Award Final Piece of Work (10 Credits)
To gain the University Foundation Award you will need to complete a final piece of work. This is normally a personal project supervised and supported by your own tutor. To register or to obtain further details please contact Claire Rimmington or Peter Ryley at the Centre on 01482 465666.
